The law (1) requires the gas installation and equipment in your home and/or block to be checked every five years. To this end, two inspections are performed: one on the installation in your home (IRI), and another on the installation in public areas (IRC).

Further details are included below:

Checks inside your home (IRI)

The IRI consists of the gas installation running from the meter to the gas appliances in your home.

For a single-family dwelling, the IRI (Individual Receiving Installation) begins at the supply valve outside the home.

Checks in public areas (IRC)

The Communal Receiving Installation is the gas installation running from the supply valve outside the building up until your meter.

For a single-family dwelling, there is no IRC (Communal Receiving Installation) and the IRI begins at the supply valve outside the home.
